Day 2: De-Stress Your Fibroids
One of the things I appreciate about having fibroids is the fact that I have been able to learn so much about how my body works, and then share that information with others. Did you know that your body works within a cycle, very similar to how nature has a cycle? Yes, it is true. Just like nature has times of growth, cleansing, and rest, our bodies go through a very similar process. When we try and do things to our body that is outside of its natural cycle, we introduce sickness and disease into our lives.
Where Do Fibroids Come From?
While medical professionals may not have a definitive answer as to why and how fibroids develop, many do agree that one of the things that stimulate fibroid growth is excess estrogen in the body. Estrogen is a naturally occurring female hormone that helps women to develop a reproductive system, a menstrual cycle, the development of breasts during puberty, etc. The key to having these systems occur naturally in the body is to keep a balance of hormones in the body (estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone). The systems of elimination we have in our body ensure that our body works within the natural cycles to keep our body as clean as possible so that it can function properly. The problem is that we live in an industrialized society that values money over nature, and our reproductive systems have paid the price.
The Key to Getting Rid of Your Fibroids
The liver is one of the most significant part of the systems of elimination for women with fibroids because it metabolizes estrogen. Our bodies are inundated with estrogen on a daily basis. Our meat is pumped up with estrogen to make it bigger and more tender. As a result, cow milk is chock-full of estrogen as well. Soy appears in just about every pre-packaged “health” food on the market. Young women are put on birth control pills sometimes at the moment they begin their menstrual cycle for fear of them becoming pregnant or out of the need to regulate their menstrual cycle. And these only represent the estrogen we knowingly put into our body. Estrogen is also found in plastic containers, pesticides, air fresheners, perfumes, etc. Add to this our generally poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyle and it is not difficult to understand how and why our livers get congested. Thus for many women, the key to ridding your body of fibroids is getting your liver to work more efficiently.
How to Make Your Liver More Efficient
There are many roads to detoxing your body so that not only your liver, but all the systems of elimination in your body will work better (colon, lungs, lymphatic system, blood, skin, kidneys). The quickest way to do this is fasting — meaning no food or drink except for water for a specified time period. Some women have done this for 30 days or less and have been able to reduce the size of the fibroids and/or fibroid symptoms. Others may choose to use Jasai Madden’s Fast Girls approach and fast one day a week and eating a mostly vegetarian diet the remainder of the week. I have used Jasai’s approach and found that I have lost weight, sleep better, and have lighter periods.
While some of you may not be ready to fast, another gentler method of making your liver more efficient is eliminating as many sources of excess estrogen as possible. This would include eating organic foods, eliminating meat and other animal products from the diet (at least temporarily until you see the results you want), using natural cleaning products, etc.
It is time we got more familiar with how our body works at the most fundamental level. Once we understand that, then we will begin to understand that what we put into it is exactly what we get out of it. Everything that goes into our bodies should be considered food — whether it is food we eat, food we put on our skin, food we breathe, etc. A we age we usually notice that we may not be able to eat garbage and still be full of energy as we did when we were teenagers. However it is possible to reach that level of energy when we feed our bodies the right foods.
