You may have seen a recent news stemming from an article in the Journal of Biological Chemistry about the use of a common cholesterol fighting drug that claims to destroy uterine leiomyoma cells, also known as uterine fibroids. The drug, simvastatin, is well known to not only lower high cholesterol levels, but also has been shown to have anti-tumor effects on breast, ovarian, prostate, colon, leukemia, and lung cancers. Its effect on uterine fibroids was unknown until now.
Western vs Alternative Healing Modalities
Now, understand, this is not a blog that raves about the virtues of western medicine — nor do I dismiss it altogether. Unfortunately for many Americans and others around the world, our health has gotten so out of hand that we are in need of drugs and surgery in order to live. However this blog is about education and offering women a choice.
I think you should know about alternative methods of managing, reducing, or getting rid of your fibroids altogether because most doctors won’t tell you about it at all. Once you have been educated about all your choices, then you are free to choose a path that works for you.
Your path may be either western or alternative medical and wellness practices, or a combination of both. However you can’t make an educated choice if you’ve only been given one side of the story. So while this new medical news is exciting as there really is not much medically sound research about uterine fibroid treatments at all, I can’t seem to get past the fact that this is still just another drug with a very long list of side effects. I want to know how to stop these bastards from growing in the first damn place.
So if you’re still with me, I want to invite you to join me on a journey to create a place where women can learn about these alternative approaches to managing their fibroids. I am writing a new book tentatively called, “Alternative Approaches to Shrinking Fibroids and Boosting Womb Health.” I am doing a series of interviews with women who believe in a more holistic approach to womb health and wellness. I am speaking to an acupuncturist, herbalist, a women’s health advocate, and many others. My aim is to have all this information in one place for those who have been on the never-ending search for information about healing your womb rather than just drugging it up and cutting it out.
